Angama Mara, Maasai Mara, Kenya
Contemporary luxury lodge with utterly astonishing views over the Maasai Mara
From around £865pp sharing per night including full board and twice daily game drives
Flights and transfers available at an additional charge
A spectacular location perched on the edge of the escarpment, Angama has unrivalled views over the Maasai Mara from its glass-fronted suites. A super-modern and luxurious camp that sits on two of three kopjes on the escarpment edge of the Rift Valley, retaining the third kopje for picnics and sundowners. This third kopje
was the location for key scenes in Out of Africa.
Accommodation
Angama is split into two camps, each with 15 spectacular tented suites. Each suite hangs suspended off the edge of the escarpment, with a 10m wide floor-to-ceiling glass wall to the front of the suite to give 180 degree views. With polished wooden floors and modern furnishings,
this is far from a rustic safari camp and offers something quite unique in the Mara
Activities & Experiences
Activities focus on game-drives which are the best way to explore the wide-sweeping savannahs of the Maasai Mara. Night drives after a sundowner drink are available, and walking safaris on the escarpment, ideal for taking in the stunning scenery. Picnics on the kopje where Out of Africa was filmed is a real treat, and something we'd highly recommend. Other activities include community visits to learn more about Maasai culture and traditions, and hot air-ballooning - but do note, these are on request and incur an additional charge.
Facilities & Services
There is a main dining / drinks area where you can relax during the heat of the day, a swimming pool and a fitness centre. Massages are available in the comfort of your suite, too.
Weather & Seasons
The only time to avoid Kenya is during the long rainy season in April and May. November is considered the short rainy season, however, these are less predictable and are much lighter. The best time of year to visit the Maasai Mara is during the Great Wildebeest Migration which tends to pass through the Mara between mid July to late October but game-viewing is great year-round as there is abundant resident wildlife.
Getting Here
Fly to Nairobi and connect with a domestic light aircraft for the 1 hour flight to the Maasai Mara airstrip. Angama Mara is a leisurely
game-drive away from the airstrip.
