Jagat Niwas Palace, Udaipur, India

Boutique hotel on the shore of Lake Pichola with sensational panoramic views

Only available as part of a tailor-made tour, designed by our India specialists

The best of the townhouse ‘havelis’ in Udaipur, Jagat Niwas Palace is an early 17th century mansion set on the banks of romantic Lake Pichola. This heritage boutique hotel offers unsurpassed views of the lake, the Aravali hills, and many of the region’s palaces and temples. The rooftop terrace, with its panoramic outlook, is a perfect place for a quiet gin and tonic as the sun goes down.

Accommodation

There are 39 rooms. Standard Rooms are small so it’s worth paying up for a lake-facing room (the Heritage, Raj and Pichola suites). These have window seats big enough to lie out on and pretty block-printed curtains. Bathrooms are clean but fairly basic but have everything you need and the curtained walk-in showers have decent pressure.

Activities & Experiences

Jagat Niwas Palace is located in the heart of this very walkable city, beside shimmering Pichola Lake. Immerse yourself in Udaipur's distinctive architecture and arts and crafts. Start at the City Palace where the Maharana of Udaipur still lives. This flamboyant fusion of Rajasthani and Mughal design is replete with mirrored walls, marble balconies and the spectacular Peacock Courtyard. Wander Udaipur's alleyways on a journey of discovery. There's exquisite craftsmanship around every corner.

Facilities & Services

Service is prompt and solicitous, though it can be a little slow when the restaurant is busy. Traditional Indian bed-tea is served as a gentle wake-up call. Wi-Fi signal is poor in rooms but acceptable in the bar and lobby. There’s a very helpful travel desk that can book reasonably-priced excursions, chauffeured cars and onward travel.

Chandni is a rooftop restaurant with sublime views and traditional Rajasthani recipes, as well as Chinese and continental. You can also dine in the Jharoka restaurant and at the in-house bakery. However, for a romantic experience, spend an evening dining out on the lake aboard

Jagat Niwas’ pontoon boat.
