Great value beach resort set on a vast near-deserted beach on Sri Lanka's north east coast
Double rooms from around £130 per night. Flights and transfers can be arranged as part of your wider Sri Lanka holiday.
Jungle Beach is a relaxed eco-retreat set in shrub jungle close to the remote village of Kuchchaveli on the north east coast of Sri Lanka about 30 minutes north of Trincomalee. This Robinson Crusoe type hideaway sits on a near-deserted beach, with a treehouse-style restaurant and bar threaded through with exotic foliage, and castaway-chic villas cloaked by mangroves – perfect for privacy-seeking couples.
Accommodation
The accommodation comprises 48 individual thatched cabins hidden within the trees. All have a private terrace, spacious bedroom and bathroom complete with an outdoor rain shower. The design is simple yet elegant with indigenous materials being used as much as possible, each cabin has a view of the ocean or the lagoon.
Activities & Experiences
Jungle Beach is really about putting your feet up, relaxing, and enjoying life in this remote corner of Sri Lanka. However, snorkelling, whale and dolphin watching is possible off the coast of Nilaveli, about 20 minutes away. Guests can also go on cycling tours around the surrounding area on bikes provided by the hotel. If you're lucky, you might even spot some wild elephants in the lagoon.
Facilities & Services
Dine at the open air restaurant or in the privacy of your own verandah. There is also a fitness studio and a free-form swimming pool dotted with sun loungers set in verdant jungle. Uga spa is set by the beach. There are two open-air treatment rooms, where guests can indulge in Swedish and Balinese massages, facials, and Ayurvedic and rejuvenating treatments. Couples’ treatments are available on request, and a spa therapist can be summoned to your cabin. Meditation sessions are held during high season.
Weather & Seasons
The driest and best months in the north eastern half of Sri Lanka are from May to August and for the west and south coasts, December to March.
