Set along the 30km of privately owned, lush green banks of the river after which it is named, Great Fish River. Nestled in the heart of South Africa's unspoilt Eastern Cape province, Kwandwe Private Game Reserve is a world-class Big Five safari experience in 22,000 hectares (54,000 acres) of pristine private wilderness. 

Accommodation

Great Fish River Lodge has 9 luxurious thatched suites with private plunge pools and spectacular river valley views, plus overhead fans, air-conditioning and an en-suite bathroom, complete with bath and indoor and outdoor showers. 

Activities & Experiences

Enjoy twice daily game drives with an armed ranger and experienced tracker team in search of the Big Five, interpretive bush walks, fishing, canoeing and bush picnics are all included in room rates. 

Facilities & Services

Great Fish River Lodge has a commanding position above the river and many an hour can be enjoyed on the expansive deck, or in the cosy leather chaired lounge. The cuisine here is exceptional and can be enjoyed in the dining room with your fellow guests, on the viewing decks, or  any of a number of magical and remote locations in the reserve.

Weather & Seasons

Probably best from April to October but game viewing is excellent all year round. Summers (October to March) are hot and wet with temperatures reaching 36°C. Winters (May to August) are dry with beautiful warm days, but evenings and early mornings can be chilly.

Getting Here

It's a 70 minute flight from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth or 1 hour 45 minutes from Johannesburg. And it's about a 2 hour drive from Port Elizabeth to Kwandwe. A flight from Port Elizabeth directly to the Kwandwe Airstrip takes approximately 45 minutes.
