Mahekal Beach Resort, Riviera Maya, Mexico
Excellent 4 star family-friendly beach resort
7 nights from around £1,600pp including flights and transfers
Not far from Playa del Carmen, this family-friendly beachfront resort has a calmer ambience and more traditional style than its equivalents in nearby Cancun. While maintaining a distance from the bright lights and bustle, Mahekal Beach Resort is an authentic Mexican-style resort that's close enough to town to stroll down along the sugar-white sandy beach any time you fancy making use of playa's facilities.
Accommodation
Facing out towards the clear blue Caribbean sea, the hotel is composed of thatched cabañas interspersed amongst the swaying palms. Rooms have cooling tiled floors, stylish wooden furnishings and accents of vivid Mexican colour. If you are looking to be right near the sea then the oceanfront rooms are for you. All rooms have 1 king or 2 queen beds, hammocks and a terrace or balcony, air-con but no phones or TVs.
Activities & Experiences
A stay at Mahekal Beach Resort is a delightful holiday on a beautiful sandy beach, indulging in occasional spa treatments, enjoying a yoga class, and taking a dip in the Caribbean (or scuba diving). But, if you want to explore, buzzy Playa del Carmen is in walking distance,
and Tulum is less than an hour away.
Facilities & Services
The beach resort has extensive gardens and overall a very agreeable atmosphere, and has a good selection of facilities and amenities providing you with the opportunity to make the most of your stay such as 2 pools, a games room, bar, 2 restaurants, bikes for hire from $10 per day, a dive centre and a shop. There is also a spa.
Weather & Seasons
The best time to visit is typically during the drier, slightly milder months between November and April. The ‘rainy’ season begins in the south around June and runs until November. Although it can be hotter and more humid at this time of year, usually it only rains for a couple of hours before the weather clears. The wettest months tend to be September and October. The Caribbean coast can be affected by the hurricane season, which officially is from June to November.
