Mont Rochelle, Franschhoek, The Winelands, South Africa

Exceptional boutique hotel overlooking Franschhoek Valley and the Dassenberg Mountains

Rooms from around £360 per night, including daily breakfast. Flights, transfers and tailor-made tours available on request.

Mont Rochelle is a luxurious boutique hotel and vineyard located in Franschhoek, the food and wine capital of South Africa. Recently undergone an extensive refurbishment project, the property encapsulates a fusion of contemporary design, and now arguably the best of South Africa’s Winelands in one exceptional space.

Accommodation

All of the 26 rooms and suites are spacious and bright, and most are named after locally grown wines. Of them, the Cabernet Rooms stand out: all look out over the verdant valley, and each has a private terrace and a head board made from local fabrics. For complete privacy, the Manor House, a short walk from the hotel, is a sprawling villa with four suites, a kitchen, a lounge, two pools and a dedicated gym.

Activities & Experiences

Franschhoek is the epicurean capital of South Africa with an abundance of great cafes and restaurants and more than 40 wineries to visit, so a stay at Mont Rochelle is all about enjoying the fantastic scenery, sampling the famously delicious food and wine, and relaxing in the peaceful environment. But, if you want to burn off a few calories, there's always hiking, biking and horse riding.

Only a 45 minute drive from Cape Town and within 35 minutes' drive of Stellenbosch, Paarl and Somerset West wine routes, it is fantastically located to explore this beautiful region.

Facilities & Services

There's a lovely outdoor swimming pool surrounded by sun-loungers and an excellent spa which offers a range of indulgent treatments, and a hammam. Hit the gym for a workout or play some tennis. The hotel maintains immaculate gardens and rolling greens with walking trails that are ideal for pre-breakfast strolls. In the afternoon, tackle garden games like giant chess and croquet.

Mont Rochelle has two restaurants: Country Kitchen (which joins up to the wine cellar) is perfect for a light lunch in the sunshine or a relaxed dinner. Or the main restaurant, Miko, is the setting for exceptional gourmet meals.

Weather & Seasons

The Winelands are a year-round destination with a mild Mediterranean climate, somewhat like the South of France, which is what makes the area perfect for grape-growing. Summer in Franschhoek is the reverse of the Northern hemisphere. The best season visit is September to March when it is hot, sunny and dry. From April to August it cools down with some rain.

Getting Here

It's about an hour from both the centre of Cape Town and Cape Town airport.
