Mowani is taken from the word M'Wane, meaning "Place of God", and it is here, that you will find the true meaning of peace and tranquillity. Mowani Mountain Camp nestles amongst the boulders of this beautiful area on a high spot commanding distant views over the ancient landscape. The luxury tented accommodation is built unobtrusively, to ensure minimum impact on the natural environment, and is the perfect place from which to explore the southern Damaraland and visit some of its geological and archaeological highlights. The Camp is set in the southernmost roaming ground for the rare black rhino and desert elephant.
Accommodation
Mowani Mountain Camp consists of 15 luxury rooms and suites, all with en-suite facilities, decorated beautifully in East African style. The luxury tents are all have a private wooden deck offering an open view of the wonderful Damara landscape.
Activities & Experiences
Activities include guided nature drives in search of the elusive desert elephant, hiking through magnificent scenery or exploring the historical site of Twyfelfontein. Twyfelfontein is a rare example of Bushmen engravings and paintings occurring at the same site. This wonderful archealogical site offers more than 2,500 engravings as well as various paintings, and is probably the finest example of rock engravings in Southern Africa.
Facilities & Services
The lodge has a lovely swimming pool which is tucked away amongst the boulders offering a refreshing retreat in between safaris. There are also some good places to sit and read a book amongst the dramatic scenery.
Weather & Seasons
The best time to visit Damaraland is from May to September when the temperature is tolerably cool, especially at night. The optimum game viewing times are between June and November.
Getting Here
Mowani Mountain Camp is a 1 hour 45 minute flight from Windhoek or a 4 to 5 hour drive.
