Sanctuary Olonana, Masai Mara, Kenya
Luxury safari lodge on the Mara River in the Masai Mara
Available as part of a tailor-made itinerary by our safari specialists
Sanctuary Olonana is an exceptional luxury safari lodge on a private stretch of the Mara River, at the foot of the impressive Siria Escarpment close to where the famous last scene from "Out of Africa" was filmed. It's the ultimate in luxury in the heart of Kenya's big game country.
Accommodation
Offering ultramodern bliss, Sanctuary Olonana is a recently refurbished retreat. Brand new glass-fronted suites offer light, sumptuous interiors and opulent marble-and-slate bathrooms, as well as private decks. Living spaces are adorned with specially commissioned African art.
Activities & Experiences
This is the beautiful setting for sighting the Big Five. Highly knowledgeable guides lead expeditions through the Masai Mara in open-sided four-wheel drives. These experiences are tailored around your preferences, and can be as active or leisurely as you like. From around July to October, herds of wildebeest and zebra cover the plains. In addition to big game viewing in the Masai Mara Reserve, you can enjoy a glimpse of the day-to-day lives of the Maasai people in the nearby village.
Facilities & Services
Enjoy the new restaurant and relaxation area or dine alfresco. Spend calm afternoons at the pool or out on the scenic sundeck. Meanwhile, the spa offers specialist Africology treatments. Experience personalised service and a relaxed atmosphere throughout your stay. With a Gold rating from Ecotourism Africa, Sanctuary Olonana takes a range of measures to maintain a high ecological standard.
Weather & Seasons
The only time to avoid Kenya is during the long rainy season in April and May. November is considered the short rainy season, however, these are less predictable and are much lighter. The best time of year to visit the Masai Mara is during the Great Wildebeest Migration which tends to pass through the Mara between mid July to late October but game-viewing is great year-round as there is abundant resident wildlife.
Getting Here
At Nairobi, you will be greeted and driven to the local airport for a 45 minute flight to the Masai Mara. Drop your bags and head straight out onto the reserve’s rolling hills in a 4x4, eyes peeled for the Big 5.
