Sanctuary Sussi & Chuma, Victoria Falls, Zambia
Luxury boutique Zambezi River lodge, close to Victoria Falls
Available as part of your tailor-made tour of Zambia or wider Africa adventure
Sanctuary Sussi & Chuma is set on the banks of the mighty Zambezi River, a short drive from the magnificent Victoria Falls. The lodge has just 12 tree houses and two spacious two bedroom private houses, and is a wonderful base from which to explore the river, the Victoria Falls and surrounding parks, and bustling Livingstone. This luxurious riverside lodge is named after David Livingstone's faithful friends, Sussi and Chuma, who carried his body all way back to England from where he died in Zambia.
Accommodation
Each of the 12 suites has a private river view deck and comes with en suite facilities, air-conditioning, overhead fans, mosquito nets and all the little luxuries you would expect from a lodge of this calibre. The two 2-bedroom Chuma houses are perfect for private use, ideal for families or small groups, they are privately staffed and each has a private swimming pool.
Activities & Experiences
Activities included are game drives in the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park, a local village tour, sundowner cruise on the Zambezi and a tour of the magnificent Victoria Falls
Facilities & Services
The main lodge building features a spectacular raised bar/lounge deck, open air dining area, curio shop, swimming pool and lawns sweeping down to the water's edge. Resident wildlife, such as hippopotamus and elephant, are likely to wander through the grounds at any time. A treatment room is available to experience spa treatments using products from the Africology line with a range of body therapies, body rituals and facial skin care.
Weather & Seasons
There are two very distinct seasons here: the wet and the dry season. These are not about local rainfall, but refer to the level of the Zambezi River. From around March through to July the river volume surges as the rainfall in Angola and Zambia from months before swells the current. The nights are chilly and the days warm at this time of year, and The Victoria Falls are at their most dramatic. From around September to January the water levels drop, the Falls are more accessible and the views are clearer. It is worth noting that the rains come from late October to February and, combined with high temperatures (up to 40C), October and November can be very hot and humid. The drier months from October to February offer different activities during the lower water level season, such as swimming in the natural rockpool at Livingstone Island, right on the edge of the Falls.
