Sausage Tree Camp, Lower Zambezi, Zambia
Superb riverside luxury camp providing an intimate and traditional safari experience
Available as part of your tailor-made adventure in Zambia, and beyond, created for you by our destination specialists
Luxurious riverside Sausage Tree Camp is set deep in the Lower Zambezi National Park, offering the best of game viewing in glorious surroundings. This wonderful safari camp has eight tented rooms and a family house, all overlooking the mighty Zambezi River and its game-rich flood-plains.
Accommodation
The camp has just eight luxurious Bedouin style tents, generously spaced along the Zambezi River bank, allowing the elephants to amble in between. Local materials create a minimalist style in which the teak and leather furniture, sumptuous four-poster beds, pure white fabrics and flowing mosquito nets, beautifully combine to create a fabulous riverside environment. Each of the tents has a unique open-air en-suite bathroom and sliding teak doors opening onto private decks with Zambezi River views, and all tents have their own personal butler, 24 hour power and plentiful hot and cold treated water. For small groups or families, tented Kigelia House has two en-suite bedrooms separated by an open plan living area leading onto the private deck and pool.
Activities & Experiences
Sausage Tree Camp's fantastic location within the Lower Zambezi National Park on the banks of the Zambezi River enables game viewing both on the water, by boat and canoes, and on land by 4WD drive game viewing vehicles or on foot (bush walks). The camp is well equipped and can easily cater to the personal and individual needs of all the guests. Having your own private guide also means that you can tailor your activities as you wish without having to stick to any particular schedule.
Facilities & Services
The central dining and bar area is fronted by an enormous teak deck overlooking the beautiful Zambezi River and low set reed islands teeming with game. The large swimming pool is idyllically situated under shading Mahogany trees and is the perfect way to cool down from the warm African sun. During a stay at Sausage Tree Camp guests are looked after by a personal butler or 'Muchinda' which means 'Attendant to the Chief'. Each Muchinda will go out of his way to ensure your stay is truly special and will be happy to share his experience of life in Zambia and the bush.
Weather & Seasons
The Lower Zambezi has a moderate to sub-tropical climate with three distinct seasons: November to March is the Emerald (rainy) season, April to July is Zambia's winter (cool and dry), and August to October is summer, when the weather is hot and dry. In terms of game viewing, the drier months are a superb time to visit. Alternatively come for some superb birdwatching at the end of the rains.
