Suryagarh Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, India

Luxury Thar Desert hideaway just outside the commanding citadel of the Golden City

Rooms from around £200 per night. Only available as part of a tailor-made tour of Rajasthan designed for you by our India specialists

Magnificent fort-like luxury hotel at the gateway to the Great Thar Desert, just outside Jaisalmer's city walls in western Rajasthan. Suryagarh is resplendent in ochre stone and blends beautifully with its scorched surroundings and allows guests to enjoy a luxurious desert sanctuary with easy access to the towering sand-coloured citadel of the Golden City.

Accommodation

72 gorgeous rooms and suites, and four standalone villas which are just a short walk from the main hotel. These the one and two bedroom Havelis offer couples and families more privacy and freedom. Centred around lantern-lit courtyards, they bring traditional Indian living into the 21st century, with intricately carved stone reliefs both inside and out, and each has a private pool.

Activities & Experiences

With one of the hotel’s expert guides at your side, jump on a camel, or into a four-wheel drive, and set out into the desert to discover Rajasthan’s lost cities, forgotten fortresses and ancient temples along the Silk Road. Of course, you'll want to explore Jaisalmer (The Golden City). With its roots in the 12th century, this sand-coloured citadel was an important defensive and trading town due to its strategic position on the camel trade routes. It's now a fascinating World Heritage Site and, perched on a ridge of yellow sandstone, is crowned by an 800 year old fort.

Facilities & Services

In addition to a wonderful indoor pool, spa, billiards room, fitness centre and yoga classes, the hotel has two restaurants: Nosh and Legend of Marwar. The latter is a formal, adults-only restaurant serving food inspired by traditional Marwari recipes. When you feel like something more casual, the hotel’s all-day dining room, Nosh, serves a variety of international fare.

The Rait spa has a sauna, rooftop pool and therapy rooms with private hot tubs. International and Indian therapies cover every part of the body from head to toe.

Weather & Seasons

Rajasthan is known as the desert state. It is largely hot and dry throughout the year, making it a great destination to get away during cold winter months. October to March is the best time to visit, with warm and sunny weather that's perfect for exploring and relaxing.
