Tangala House, Zambezi River, Zambia

Luxury family home sleeping up to 8 on the banks of the Zambezi River

Minimum 3 night stay. All-inclusive prices available on request.

Tangala House is a unique private house situated on the banks of the Zambezi River and only 15km upstream from Victoria Falls. The house offers total privacy and exclusivity, with breathtaking panoramic views across a large bend in the river. It's elegantly furnished and extremely spacious with four double bedrooms (all en-suite),  a large swimming pool overlooking the Zambezi River with its own 250m private river frontage, and a large garden. Tangala House is the family home of the owners of neighbouring Tongabezi and makes a perfect Victoria Falls retreat for a family or small group looking for exclusivity and privacy.

Accommodation

Ideal for a Zambia family safari, Tangala House sleeps up to 8 and has a children’s playroom and a spacious kitchen-dining room. The rooms are enclosed, with large glass fitted windows to keep out the insects and allow guests to enjoy magnificent views across the Zambezi. Over 145 species of birds have been spotted from the kitchen window and elephant herds can often be seen drinking on the opposite bank. Guests can dine outside by candlelight and be serenaded by the night sounds of the African bush and Zambezi River. The house is fully serviced and staffed, including a private guide, host, chef, waiters and housekeeping staff. Guests also have the use of private vehicles and boats.

Also worth considering: Sindabezi Island and its 5 luxury cottages in the heart of the Zambezi, just a 10 minute boat ride downstream from Tangala and Tongabezi towards the Victoria Falls.

Activities & Experiences

Most of the activities revolve around the Victoria Falls and there are also opportunities to go game viewing in the Victoria Falls National Park. Guests can tailor their activities to their own requirements, there are guided fishing trips, cultural village walks and sunset river cruises. From Livingstone the options include: Helicopter flights over Victoria Falls, white water rafting, trips to Livingstone Island, trips to Livingstone Museum, micro light flights, fishing, abseiling, bungee jumping and tours to Mosi O Tunya National Park and Chobe National Park.

Facilities & Services

Tangala House has a lovely 13m private swimming pool, trampoline, lawn games and various board games as well as a television nook (with satellite TV video and Hi Fi) and a gym. The house is beautifully designed for indoor / outdoor living and comes with a vehicle and boat, chef, waiters and private guide all courtesy of neighbouring Tongabezi.

Weather & Seasons

There are two very distinct seasons here:  the wet and the dry season. These are not about local rainfall, but refer to the level of the Zambezi River. From around March through to July the river volume surges as the rainfall in Angola and Zambia from months before swells the current.  The nights are chilly and the days warm at this time of year, and The Victoria Falls are at their most dramatic. From around September to January the water levels drop, the Falls are more accessible and the views are clearer. It is worth noting that the rains come from late October to February and, combined with high temperatures (up to 40C), October and November can be very hot and humid. The drier months from October to February offer different activities during the lower water level season, such as swimming in the natural rockpool at Livingstone Island, right on the edge of the Falls.

Getting Here
