Sophisticated boutique beach resort enshrining the gentle Malay art of service and hospitality
7 nights from £640 to £795pp sharing depending on season. Flights and transfers at additional cost.
Located on the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia, Tanjong Jara Resort is a sanctuary of luxury and well-being steeped in age-old Malay traditions. Designed to reflect the elegance and grandeur of 17th century Malay palaces, Tanjong Jara is a boutique beach resort with an authentic taste of the region's spirit and an enduring embodiment of the gentle Malay art of service and hospitality. Set on a long crescent of golden beach fringed by palm trees, overlooking the turquoise waters of the South China Sea, the resort's fairly remote location creates an appealing local-feel, whilst still offering the high standard of facilities and accommodation that you would
expect from a luxury hideaway.
Accommodation
There are 99 rooms at Tanjong Jara. The Bumbung and Serambi Rooms are in a two-storey building, with the first floor Bumbung rooms having wonderful views of the sea or gardens, and below them the Serambi Rooms having the addition of a partially covered veranda. The Anjung Rooms are single storey and are on the beachfront with private outdoor courtyards with sunken baths.
Activities & Experiences
There are plenty of activities available to tempt you, including Jara Hill walks with the resort's Naturalist, morning market visits with the chef, cooking classes, Kampong Sucimurni lifestyle, batik painting, kite-making, Indera Deria exercise (Malay-style yoga), bird-watching, tennis, guided bicycle tours of the surrounding villages, snorkelling or diving at Tenggol Island, eco-adventures on a Marang River cruise, Chemerung Waterfall excursions with a picnic lunch, visits to Dungun night market, traditional handicraft tours and kayaking.
Facilities & Services
The resort has an inviting infinity pool with views towards the sea, and there is also a separate adults-only pool. There's also a PADI dive centre and two tennis courts. The award-winning spa is a peaceful sanctuary housed in an area of tranquil pools and gardens.
Di Atas Sungei restaurant sits above the river and has no menu; instead the chef will create different dishes every day based on the freshest local produce. The Teratai Terrace sits next to the pool, serving tandoori dishes for lunch and cocktails and private dining in the evening. At the Nelayan you can enjoy seafood by candlelight in a beachfront setting.
